Inclusion was very important to Harry E Foster. “Red,” as he was also known, was instrumental in the formation and provision of funding for what is now known as the Canadian Association for Community Living (CACL) and Community Living Ontario (CLO). The CACL and CLO were established to promote integration and acceptance of people with developmental disabilities.

Mr. Foster established The Harry E. Foster Charitable Foundation in 1954 to provide “seed monies” to organizations being formed on behalf of people with developmental disabilities. He became a successful broadcaster and advertising executive. However “Red” never missed an opportunity to call on his many important contacts to open doors for people with developmental disabilities whether through direct fundraising campaigns or sponsorship commitments.

In June, Community Living London learned that we were a successful recipient of a grant to enhance our Snoezelen room. What is a Snoezelen Room? It is a multi-sensory room that oers a relaxing atmosphere, soothing sounds, tactile experiences, gentle movement and many opportunities to engage the senses. Community Living London has the only community Snoezelen room that is accessible to everyone. For a minimal annual membership fee, anyone can access this room an hour a week. This grant has enabled Community Living London to replace existing favourite pieces while integrating new experiences such as low vision kits and a wheelchair rocker. We look forward to the day that we can welcome the community in to see our changes!
